In August 2023, the IDEAMAPS Data Ecosystem research team in Nigeria visited Kano to run a “mini” launch of the project and met with stakeholders, including committee heads, practitioners, government agencies, and academics. The project launch followed a similar format to those held earlier in the year in Lagos and Nairobi which consisted of project overviews, interactions with our digital product designs, discussion of primary stakeholder needs, and visiting with communities.
The team received a warm welcome and the event itself received good coverage in the local media. The community members expressed an eagerness to see what this project could do to help improve visibility about their needs and enable better government responses.
The team will return to Kano at the end of November 2023 to carry out engagements with the Participatory Action Research group. Here, community members will have the opportunity to discuss in more detail how different indicators of deprivation in their community can be visualized and communicated to reflect their lived experiences.
